In disguise

July 24th, 2010

You can wear them to bed but whether they classify as ‘pyjamas’, well, that’s debatable

Some people don’t like sleeping in pyjamas and opt for the daggy t-shirt with a pair of loose fitting track pants. This trend should be extinct like the Quagga – think confused zebra that has stripes on the front of its body, light brown hair along its rear and underbelly, and white legs. Just like your lame excuse for pyjamas – or lack thereof – this animal wasn’t known for its beauty.

It’s the common story for teens – that is, to reject the pyjama look. But let’s face it; teenagers don’t enjoy much of anything, especially the things that are ‘common’. It’s the stage for rebellion, and trial and error. This time’s spent finding themselves, getting to know they’re individual style and figuring out why the world is against them. If you have the honour of knowing a teen (said sarcastically), buying some pyjamas as a gift is a definite no-no. But here’s the thing about teenagers, they’re easily tricked. It’s called reverse psychology. Buy them some pyjamas – of course the ones you buy are cleverly disguised as normal clothes from www.pyjamas.com.au – wrap them up and tell them these are clothes to wear out. Here’s the thing about these teens – you tell them one thing and they take it to mean something else.

Case in point, outlined below is how the complex process works.
Adult says, “That blue shirt really brings out your eyes.”
Teenager thinks: I need to get some new black clothes to match the mood I’m in.
Adult says, “So here are some good clothes to wear to church.”
Teenager thinks: No way, man. I’m wearing these ‘good clothes’ to bed.

Case closed. You’ve won and the teenager is none the wiser. This is reverse psychology at its best.

So this is the most extreme case for those not wanting to wear the humble pjs. Some people just don’t enjoy the selection of stripes, checks and printed pyjamas that are available. My understanding is that not everyone loves answering the door in monster print sleepwear, especially if you’re a 34 year old single woman. It’s a great way of scaring the neighbour, yes, but what else is out there for people who want to sleep in a stylish looking outfit, disguised as pyjamas? Look no further because this pyjama specialist has it covered.

If you don’t like the look of the traditional sleepwear, but enjoy the feel, you’re not alone. Why not go for something a little less pyjama-like and a little more stylish? www.pyjamas.com.au introduces some exciting new versions of the common night clothes.

Ditch your old ways and try out some pyjamas that don’t look like the traditional style of pyjamas. Instead, go online and wear some ‘in disguise’ pyjamas and remember to tell your friends you saw it here first!

Man up
Let the men do their own shopping – at last!

June 12th, 2010

Speaking on behalf of women everywhere, I think we’ve all been in this unsavoury position at one time in our lives. We’ve all raised our hand to being the all-knowing ‘shopper’s assistant’ and regretted it within half an hour of the expedition.

mens shopping

It’s happened many times over, we’ve fallen into the trap. Out of the kindness of our hearts, we’ve offered to accompany our husband, boyfriend, father, brother or son to buy some new clothes only to have the world stop! After the countless arguments that have already played out before we reach this pivotal point – standing outside the shopping district praying he’ll continue the walk until he’s safely inside – the big shock hits and the nerves start (not only his but yours too).

Forget about the hours spent nagging, complaining, counting the amount of socks he’s lost to the bottomless pit of the washing machine in a bad attempt to prove your point that he needs to go shopping. It’s the battle that can’t be won. Your gentle support sends him angry and leads him walking away empty-handed. Only the gentle support that you thought it was wasn’t so gentle. His endless um-ing and ah-ing has sent your head spinning and frustration is at an all time level – high. Recognise this situation?

Stop trying to persuade him to enter your local shopping centre and next time he’s near a computer, attack…gently. Simply type the web address www.pyjamas.com.au into your browser and start shopping. No more queues, no more arguments, just easy shopping.
Who doesn’t want to minimise this stress? Go back to that loving relationship you know and love.

Once you’ve discovered there’s a solution to this universal problem – shopping with le boyfriend – log on to www.pyjamas.com.au and the path is simple. All you need to do is follow the link to Men’s Sleepwear. One click and the shopping battle is won.

Winter Warmth with Flannelette Pyjamas

May 31st, 2010

There’s no better feeling than jumping into bed on those cold winter nights surrounded by flannel. Whether you have flannel sheets or some flannelette pjs – or both – you feel instantly warm.

As I delve into the history of flannel, one thing becomes obvious – this popular material made up of wool or cotton fibres serves its purpose well, providing what we most desire in winter, warmth.

Where it all began
Dating back to the 16th century, it’s believed the first traces of flannel were associated to Wales. While it wasn’t quite flannel in the beginning stages but resembling fine wool, the primary use of the material all those years ago – as winter warmers – continues to be relevant today. Through these early centuries though, the French and Germans caught on until this early version of flannel fabric began parading its use through North America in the 20th century. It was at this stage in history where the wool was first integrated with or substituted by cotton, silk or other synthetic materials. Where there’s a will, there’s a way – enter the introduction of flannel.

Flannel fabric has been transformed to fit several uses but its most profound use was in the form of clothing. Known for its warm and durable qualities, blue collared workers such as farmers, lumberjacks and other men working outdoors preferred the flannel shirt, jackets and undergarments over and above any other fabric available.

I guess the words ‘flannel’ and ‘grunge’ didn’t expect to see each other in the same sentence but when the 90s rolled around, it was the ‘in’ thing. A surge in the popularity of flannel clothing can be linked to grunge musicians in the United States. More notably, the members of Nirvana favoured one particular outfit that caught on like a bee to honey. The trend or for a better word, obsession, became that of a plaid flannel shirt worn with a t-shirt, blue jeans and combat boots.

Now that we’re all well-informed about the history of flannel, let’s take a moment to reflect on the legend who went one step further than developing the good ol’ flannelette shirt to produce something even better – flannelette pyjamas.

What NOT to wear

May 6th, 2010

When dressing newborn babies for bedtime we take so much care. What can they move easily in? What will keep them from moving too much? What might cause irritation or rashes?

Why does this debate over what to wear during those 8 hours of slumber seem to stop as we hit our teenage years – or older? If anything, we need to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages more closely. Here’s why…

As we get older, we are susceptible to developing allergic reactions. Basically, an allergic reaction is our body’s way of responding to something it doesn’t like, otherwise known as an ‘invader’. Through the years, we might become immune to specific tastes and smells, maybe even come into close contact with something our body dislikes and it reacts in turn. In some cases, it’s the clothes we wear that carry such antigens.

Choosing cotton sleepwear definitely carries with it many advantages. Cotton, being a natural fibre, is capable of absorbing body moisture and drawing heat away from the skin in warm weather. Opt for cotton sleepwear as it allows the skin to breathe naturally while you sleep easy. Next time you’re on the hunt for the perfect pj’s, ask yourself, how is choosing the right pair of pyjamas going to benefit my health?

Onto other pressing matters now. For those of you who opt to wear the daggy tracksuit, the shorts that are so old there’s no elastic left in them or some frumpy t-shirt to bed…what are you thinking? Didn’t your mother ever teach you to look your best at ALL times? Imagine this – You’re woken up suddenly by a raging fire that’s threatening to burn down your house. Do you really want to be on the five o’clock news the following day in your rough and ragged choice of sleepwear while the hero across the street tells the story of how he saved your life. There’s is such a thing as what not to wear and daggy pyjamas takes prime spot on our list. Choose to be sleeping beauty instead of the ugly duckling and save yourself the heartache.

Sleeping beauty vs. the ugly duckling: who do you want to be tonight?

Our advice – do yourself a favour and go to www.pyjamas.com.au Shopping for a new range of stylish pyjamas couldn‘t be easier and more reliable. The next time you have to dash out of your house in the wee hours of the morning, make sure you’ve already received your package filled with the latest designs and styles from this up and coming website. Shop to it.

Sleepin’ easy!

April 22nd, 2010

It’s that time of year again when the weather is unpredictable. One night the traces of winter calls for the doona and extra blankets at bedtime, while the next, unbearable heat prompts us to dig out the cotton sheets.

As we spend almost one third of our lives sleeping, being comfortable while you allow your body to rest for the following day is more important than you might think. Yes, we go the extra mile shopping for the right bed and supportive pillows but what about choosing the pyjamas we wear? How can the pyjamas we wear affect the way we sleep? That’s easy, if we’re uncomfortable, we lose sleep. Finding the right material for our pyjamas – and fit – is pivotal to achieving a good night’s rest.

A new website offers the very best sleepwear for babies, kids, young teens and adults. Easy to navigate, www.pyjamas.com.au has a wide range of pyjamas to suit your every size, shape and style.
